A mála a meditáció gyakorlásánál használatos számláló eszköz.
Általában 108 szemből és egy végső, nagyobb szemből áll. Gyakran láthatunk olyan malákat, amelyek további három, a többitől eltérő szemet is tartalmaznak. Ezek négy, egyenként 27 szemnyi részre osztják a málát. A 108 szem jelképezi a száz békés és erőteljesen védelmező aspektust a közteslétben (tib. bardo), valamint a nyolcféle tudatot. A záró szem testesíti meg a megvilágosodást.
Hagyományosan, a meditáció során hüvelykujjunkkal mozgatjuk a szemeket. Ily módon mantránként egy-egy szemet pörgetünk át a mutatóujjon. Amikor a záró szemhez érünk, új kört kezdve, megfordítjuk a málát a másik irányba. Ez azt jelképezi, hogy a bódhiszattva, amikor eléri a megvilágosodást, visszatér a feltételekehez kötött világba, hogy segítségére legyen minden lénynek, és elvezesse őket a megvilágosodáshoz.
